Virginia is firmly in place as one of John Brandenburg ‘s top schools. The DeSmet Jesuit (St. Louis, MO) standout, a 6-11, 225-pound center rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, enjoyed a recent visit to Charlottesville and is looking to return in the coming months.

The day after the end of the NBPA Top 100 Camp, Brandenburg and his father toured Virginia’s grounds. He came away very impressed.

“The Virginia campus was really nice,” Brandenburg reflected. “We drove around, then took a formal tour that they give everyone who visits the campus. I really liked the campus. It was really great. It has great history. Historically, it’s a very interesting place to see. After that, I got to meet with Coach Leitao and visit with him. He told me I’m their number one recruit for a big guy, which is nice.

“I loved the visit.”

According to the star big man, head coach Dave Leitao “said he saw me as very possibly starting my freshman year. He saw me as someone who can help the team on defense right away while they would continue to develop my offensive game.”

A return visit to Charlottesville is on Brandenburg’s mind, but nothing definitive has been set.

“I’m trying to get back up there for another unofficial,” Brandenburg said. “I want to try and get a better feel for the school. I want to hang out with the players. I want to go back when school is in session. I think I got a really good sense of the coaches and the facilities, but I want to make sure I get along with the players and like the classes.”

Six schools reside at the top of Brandenburg’s list. All but two have extended official scholarship offers.
