Sylven Landesberg

Holy Cross (Flushing, N.Y.) 6-5 guard Sylven Landesberg kicked off an important month of September for the Virginia Cavaliers with a five day visit that lasted until Monday. Landesberg is the first of four key 2008 class recruits the staff is expected to host this month.

The UVa staff is hoping to land Landesberg with one of its three scholarships in the 2008 class and they were excited upon his arrival last Thursday. In fact, the talented senior said the whole team “showed me a lot of love when I arrived.”

Over the course of the next five days, Landesberg, who was accompanied by his father and mother on the visit, would tour the grounds, tour the John Paul Jones Arena, visit with the coaches, hang out with the players, scrimmage with the players (on three of the five days) and learn about UVa’s academics. He offered his impressions on…

The John Paul Jones Arena…

“I would have to say the facilities are great. The gym they play in is top of the line,” Landesberg said. “I’ve never seen anything like that. It compares to Madison Square Garden. The gym was amazing. Everything else – the weight room, the locker room, the practice facility – well, you can tell they put a lot of money into the basketball program. You can easily see it.”

The Players…

“First of all, they are all a bunch of good kids,” Landesberg said. “None of them were bad kids. I liked that a lot. I was playing with them a lot and they are a talented team. When you think of Virginia basketball, I think you immediately think of Sean Singletary and J.R. Reynolds. But I see a lot more talent after those guys.”
