6-11, 235-pound center John Brandenburg made his official visit to the University of Virginia last weekend. Obviously, this was a key trip for the De Smet Jesuit (St. Louis, MO) senior who is looking to make a decision between the Cavaliers and Stanford. While the talented 4-star prospect contemplates his decision, caught up with his father, Jim, to discuss last weekend’s experience.

“It went real well,” Jim Brandenburg said of his son’s official visit experience at UVa. “I think he really liked Coach Leitao. Coach Seymour has been the main recruiter and John likes him a lot. He was real impressed with their experience and knowledge. He got to meet the strength coach for basketball, Shaun Brown. He was really impressed with him. I think he really liked that. We met with the Academic Advisor for the basketball team. I think John really liked all the help that was available for ball players there. Then we met with the Dean of Undergraduate Business School. John is interested in taking business courses and maybe even majoring in business, so I think he liked the fact that Virginia does have an undergraduate business major. He was real happy with everything.”

When Brandenburg visited Stanford last month, he commented on the team chemistry as something that really stood out. The Virginia players had their chance to impress this past weekend.

“He went out with the players on both Friday and Saturday night,” Brandenburg said. “At least, he went out with some of them. They took him around. He didn’t tell me much, but it seemed like he liked it. I think he enjoyed the social scene.”

According to his father, John is using his time now to weigh the pluses and minuses of each
