In addition to resuming his role as a stud safety on defense, Okechuckwu Okoroha also plays tight end and is on special teams in his final season at Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, MD). The 6-0, 192-pound senior went through an adjustment period with his expanded role but, with some advice from UVa primary recruiter Mike London, is coming around nicely.
In last week’s 32-0 win over Oxon Hill, Okoroha tallied 11 tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown.
“At the beginning of the season, going both ways became a problem for me and I had to adapt,” Okoroha said. “I called Coach London and he just talked to me about it. He gave me really good advice. He told me what to do in certain situations. If I had to stay on offense, he told me just to make sure I do what I can to help myself.”
