Last Wednesday, the Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball program picked up a big commitment in 6-8, 216-pound guard/forward Tristan Spurlock . Spurlock, rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, chose the ‘Hoos over offers from Clemson, Georgetown, N.C. State and Wake Forest, with the final decision coming down to UVa and Georgetown. The Woodbridge, Virginia, native took some time to discuss his commitment in depth in this latest edition of “Q&A”.
(Note: Spurlock, who has attended Montrose Christian (Rockville, MD) each of the past two years, remains uncertain as to where he will attend high school for his senior year. He says the answer should come by next week, though.)
Q&A with Tristan Spurlock
TheSabre.com: A week after becoming a member of Virginia’s 2009 class, what is your feeling now? Is the excitement still there?
Tristan Spurlock : “I’m still feeling good. I’ve had to go out and get some more orange and blue. I got a few shirts. I did a radio interview. It’s been fun. I can’t wait to get there.”
TheSabre.com: Do you plan to sign in November?
Tristan Spurlock : “We haven’t really talked about it. I’m going to UVa either way, so it doesn’t really matter when I do it.”
TheSabre.com: The decision seemed to be a tough one between Virginia and Georgetown. What gave Virginia the edge in the end?
Tristan Spurlock : “It was tough for me and my family, but in the end, for me, being able to play right away and my comfort level with Coach Leitao and Coach Courtney pushed me to UVa. Going to Virginia seems...
