View From The EDGE: USC Postgame

After watching Saturday, my initial thoughts about the UVa-USC game … are that USC is really good, Peter Lalich is going to be O.K., and it is really nice to have Kevin Ogletree back. I was blown away by how fast and big USC was in person. They really reminded me of the Florida State teams back in the 90’s, where they were better at every single position on the field. I would be very surprised if USC doesn’t end up in Miami for the National Championship game this year.

I came into the game excited about Peter Lalich ‘s potential and Saturday’s game made me think that maybe we have a good future at the QB position. I know he made some mistakes in the second half with the interception (trying to get it all back in one throw) and two fumbles, but I thought overall he looked pretty poised and didn’t look intimidated out there. He was pretty poised even though he had USC defenders in his face all afternoon. He didn’t panic and was able to make some decent throws even with the pocket collapsing around him. There is still plenty that he can improve on, but I think he has the mental and physical tools to lead this team, and it is a good sign he didn’t fall apart today.

I as so happy to see Kevin Ogletree back on the field again. I think he is clearly our deadliest weapon and he looks like he can break a big play every time he touches the ball. I read all the reports from this summer about how fast he was, and it really showed out there on the field today. He looked like one guy that could run stride for stride with USC.
