TheSabre.com caught up with 6-0, 220-pound Chancellor (Fredericksburg, VA) RB/LB Dominique Wallace , who is set to lead his team in the Division 4, Region I final against Powhatan on Saturday. Wallace, who earned Battlefield district Offensive Player of the Year honors for his regular season performance, rushed for 152 yards and a score, hauled in two receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown, and threw an 18-yard touchdown pass in last week’s regional semifinal win over Courtland.
Wallace, who is being recruited by Virginia to play running back, is one of the top players in the state of Virginia’s 2009 class. He is ranked #6 in TheSabre.com’s Preseason Top 40.
Q&A with Dominique Wallace …
TheSabre.com: Your team is 11-0 heading into the Division 4, Region I final against Powhatan. How has your team been able to be so successful this season?
Dominique Wallace : Team chemistry. We’re really a team. We enjoy practice and being with each other. We enjoy going to practice. It does not seem like a job where you have to be at practice. It is really fun and we enjoy it.
TheSabre.com: Has there been any change in the team dynamic since the playoffs began?
Dominique Wallace : We still practice pretty much the same way. We try not to change things too much. It is just like every single game. We’re a little more focused here or there.
TheSabre.com: Do you have a consistent pre-game routine? Any superstitions?
Dominique Wallace : I do the same thing before every game. Right before every game I take a knee and say a prayer. I also wear a wrist band everyday and I give it to one of our trainers before every game. He is autistic. I give him the bracelet every game and that gets him real excited. I do it right before pregame.
