ACC Champions Prep For Next Tourney

The Virginia men’s soccer team secured its first ACC Championship since 2004 with wins over Maryland, Wake Forest and N.C. State in the ACC Tournament over the weekend. The Cavaliers pitched shutout in all three games, which pushes their shutout streak to eight consecutive games; the Hoos haven’t allowed a goal since the 12th minute of a 3-1 win against Virginia Tech on Oct. 17.

After the run to the title, Cavalier goalkeeper Diego Restrepo was named the event’s MVP while Tony Tchani, Will Bates and Hunter Jumper joined him on the All-Tournament Team.

UVa coach George Gelnovatch, who has led the program to four ACC Championships, joined The Sabre to talk about some of those players, the conference title, and the Hoos’ chances in the NCAA Tournament. Virginia hosts the Princeton/Bucknell winner on Sunday at 1 p.m.
