Previously committed players such as Kyrrel Latimer , Kevin “KP” Parks Jr. and Rijo Walker enjoyed the weekend in Charlottesville, but the big news so far is that Virginia has secured a commitment from Towers High School (Decatur, GA) product Miles Gooch , a 6-4, 220-pound quarterback prospect.
We have yet to get direct quotes from Gooch or his coach, but several sources, including several recruits, confirmed the commitment. The Georgia standout had committed to Toledo last week but apparently changed his mind, committing to the Hoos on Saturday.
Gooch, who transferred into Towers for his senior season, completed 57.4 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,204 yards, 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He helped Towers to a 7-4 overall record, a significant turnaround for a program that went 1-9 in 2008.
Gooch is an athletic prospect. We’ll see whether or not another position is being discussed, but for now the assumption is that he’ll be a quarterback for the Cavaliers. If so, Gooch would be the second quarterback commitment of the class, joining former Gulliver Prep (Miami, FL) standout Michael Strauss . Strauss enrolled at UVa earlier this month, so he’ll get to compete in spring practice.
