Chris Brathwaite: DE, DT or LB?

Chris Brathwaite performed very well in his time at Holy Cross (Flushing, N.Y.), showing off his talents at defensive tackle, defensive end and offensive guard. As a senior and primarily at defensive end, he had seven sacks and earned Class AAA league defensive player of the year, first-team all-Queens and all-city honors. There is no question which side of the ball the New York prep standout will play on at Virginia this coming season, but the exact position is a question.

“I’m not sure what position I’ll play,” said Brathwaite, who now stands at 6-1 and weighs 275 pounds. He ran a 4.65 40 and a 4.4 shuttle at UVa’s camp last summer. “I’m hearing anything from defensive end to defensive tackle to middle linebacker. I’ve played on the defensive line, so if I move to middle linebacker I’d have to learn the position. It would be work, but I’ll do what’s best for the team. They want to put me where I could get on the field the fastest.”

Brathwaite will finish up school in May and graduate in June. He reports to Virginia on July 7 for a summer school session. As he embarks on his college career, he has one main goal in mind.

“A lot of people don’t get this opportunity, so I’m looking to take advantage of it,” Brathwaite said.
