LCA Wideout Primed For More Offers?

Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA) senior wide receiver Demitri Knowles has earned FBS attention, including an official offer from the University of Virginia, this offseason, but LCA head coach Frank Rocco believes the 6-1, 175-pound prospect’s recruitment could pick up significantly in the coming month.

“He has still got UVa as his only offer,” Rocco said. “We went up there for a 7-on-7 tournament and he had an outstanding day. UVa really was the first school to see what he can do. By virtue of that performance, they felt they would offer. They offered a week or so after. He is still slightly under the radar. This really is only his second year playing football. The fact that UVa saw him in action and was willing to offer is exciting. I think many other schools will join that group. Maryland in particular. They called on Wednesday about him.”

Connecticut and Liberty are also showing serious interest in Knowles, who is off to an excellent start to the 2010 season. He hauled in five receptions for over 100 yards and a score in a 13-11 win over Amherst and followed that up with nine catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-0 shutout of Gretna.

A player with excellent speed, Knowles finished the 2009/2010 indoor track season as the VIS state champion in the 55 meters, 300 meters and the long jump. The speed is certainly there, but the LCA star improved in other areas this offseason.
