DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) senior offensive tackle Kelby Johnson attended the University of Virginia’s win over VMI last Saturday. The 6-8, 285-pound prospect hasn’t second-guessed the commitment he made to UVa in April, and last weekend’s experience only strengthened his decision.
“I loved everything,” said Johnson, who had never been to a regular season game at Virginia before. He was accompanied by DeMatha teammate and fellow UVa commit Jordan Lomax . “Everything is just so great. I can’t wait to get down there, to get on the field playing.”
Following the game, Johnson was in the locker room, where he spoke with coaches and players including former DeMatha standouts Jeremiah Mathis and Rodney McLeod .
“I went around and talked to the players, and the coaches would come around and talk to us,” Johnson said. “They do a countdown after every win where they count down the number of points they had. The closer they get to zero, the crazier they get. Coach London is bringing out a whole different side of the team.”
