Atkins, Jesperson Reflect On Official Visits

Merrill (WI) wing forward Darion Atkins was the last. While making their official visits the first weekend in October, the two met for the first time and hit if off immediately.

“As soon as we saw each other, we didn’t say much at first, but we were left alone together for about 20 minutes and we started talking and joking and laughing,” the 6-8, 210-pound Atkins said. “From that point on, we were just laughing like we had known each other a long time.”

The 6-7, 185-pound Jesperson concurred, saying, “Darion is real cool, real easy to get along with. We started talking right away. We have a lot in common. We both have a real good work ethic. I’ll be excited to start my college career with him next year.”

The prospects also got along well with the current Cavaliers.

“I felt like me and Paul fit in really well with [the players],” said Atkins, who spent a lot of time with freshmen guards KT Harrell and Billy Baron . “They were in our position once, too. They know what we’re going through. They’ve been in our shoes, and they told us it would be okay. When we get there, it’ll be time to work.”

For Atkins and Jesperson, the camaraderie with the team was the highlight of the weekend.

“The big thing to me is how easy it was to get along with the guys. Both Darion and I liked all the guys. No one had a huge ego. They are all hard workers wanting to be part of something bigger than themselves. How they treated me and Darion is the biggest thing that stood out to me,” Jesperson said.
