UVa Eyes Elusive Title Run

The Bratton brothers and their senior classmates have one more shot to win a national title at UVa.

The seniors of this year’s Virginia men’s lacrosse team are on a mission. The entire team wears a wristband boldly proclaiming “Amat Victoria Curam” – meaning “Victory favors those who take pains” in Latin. Senior captain Bray Malphrus, a member of what was hypothesized as the “Greatest Recruiting Class Ever” by Inside Lacrosse magazine, proposed the idea. Thus far, the Cavaliers’ super-hyped senior class has made three trips to the Final Four, but has no hardware to show for it. Will the championship trophy finally make its way back to Charlottesville in 2011?

Preseason rankings are always subjective, and expectations surrounding the Virginia program are always high. Coach Dom Starsia doesn’t seem to think much of it, and seems a little amused by all the hype.
