Bowanko Eyes Time With Versatility

Luke Bowanko takes snaps at guard and center for UVa.

With many familiar names returning on Virginia’s offensive line, the unit seems focused on building on last season’s turnaround and improving playable depth across the line this spring. One player that factors heavily into those goals is sophomore Luke Bowanko , a versatile sophomore out of Centreville High School.

Need someone at right guard? How about center? Injuries created a need for an emergency tackle? What about someone to play in the shield portion of the punting unit or on the line in field goal situations? Bowanko can do all of those things. He currently works at right guard with the first-team offensive line, though Landon Bradley ‘s return from injury after the spring could create some shuffling up front that moves Bowanko to a reserve role. He is also taking snaps as a back-up center option to Anthony Mihota and is expected to be a contributor on special teams as well.
