University of Virginia 2012 commits Mike Tobey made the trek to the Commonwealth this past weekend for the Nike EYBL Hampton. Nolte, a 6-8 forward out of Milton (GA), played for the Southern Kings Gold AAU squad, while the 6-11 center Tobey suited up for the New York Gauchos.

TheSabre.com was on hand on Saturday, day two of the 3-day event. Neither Nolte nor Tobey played Friday night (Nolte’s flight was delayed, while Tobey previously planned to miss the Friday game), but both were on display Saturday. The Southern Kings dropped both contests on the day, falling to 0-3 heading into Sunday’s play, but Nolte had a big-time performance in the night contest against Spiece Indy Heat.

In the 82-76 loss, the recent Cavaliers commit made 11 of 17 field goals, including a perfect 5-5 from 3-point range, for 27 points. He added nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks. (Check out 10 of Nolte’s points on TheSabre.com’s Youtube Channel here).

“[Shooting] has always been one of my strengths,” Nolte said earlier in the day. “I’ve worked at it too, but it’s always one of the things I’ve done well growing up.”

Nolte, who says he is “excited” about being a Cavalier, is relieved to have the recruiting process behind him.

“Since I’ve committed, I just want to focus on getting better,” Nolte said. “Just getting quicker and faster and stronger. Some of those things come with age, but I’m working on ’em hard. Just getting to the basket more, working off the dribble. I’m trying to win out here.”

Tobey, who committed to Virginia back in December, is also pleased to have already made his college decision.

“Oh, it’s great. I love it,” he said. “Now, I don’t have any pressure. And plus, it’s really what I was looking for. I have no regrets on what I decided.”
