Canaan Severin boasts 11 offers, including Boston College, Connecticut, Iowa, N.C. State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova, Virginia and Western Michigan. The Worcester Academy (Worcester, MA) rising senior is in the midst of making college visits, and one week ago he was in Charlottesville touring the University of Virginia.

“When I’ve gone on visits, the schools usually have grad assistants come out and bring me around. UVa’s coach Reid toured me around and talked to me and my dad the whole visit. I thought that was really cool,” said the 6’3″, 215-pound wide receiver/safety prospect. “He told me everything. He told me the history about the school. I also got to meet Coach London, and that was cool as well. He’s an awesome guy, too.”

Virginia began its pursuit of Severin this past January, when Jim Reid stopped by Worcester Academy. Certainly, it seems as though Reid has been able to connect well with the Marlboro, Massachusetts, native.

“We kind of clicked right away,” Severin said, referring to his relationship with Reid. “The way I was raised was to show respect. My parents raised me the right away, and Coach Reid noticed that right away. We really clicked. He said I am a ‘UVa guy.'”

Severin scored his first scholarship offer around this time one year ago, when Boston College came through after its camp. Looking to narrow the field to single digits before the end of summer, Severin has visited Boston College and Connecticut, went to Virginia and N.C. State last week, and plans to go to Penn State and Iowa this week.

He has no clear favorite at this point. “I’ll probably make a list this summer, like halfway through July maybe. No bigger than a top five.”

Severin played wide receiver and safety this past season as a junior. He hauled in 35 receptions for 550 yards and five scores on offense and tallied five interceptions on defense. Virginia likes him as a wide receiver.

“I talked to Coach [Shawn] Moore and he really likes me a lot,” Severin said. “He said they need some big, possession guys. I watched film on their passing game, too. I liked it.”
