Since our last Strategy Session, the University of Virginia football program has seen three players leave the program while also scoring two verbal commitments in the class of 2013. Coach London and company have also tinkered with the roster, moving players to different positions on both sides of the ball. This latest Session examines the latest on the class of 2013 recruiting front as spring football is well underway.
Scholarship Projection for the 2013 season
Virginia football announced on March 2 that three players — quarterback Ross Metheny , wide receiver Kevin Royal , and defensive end Thompson Brown — were no longer with the program. Our initial roster projection (scholarship players only) for the 2013 season was 75, but the number now stands at 72.

After two junior days in February, UVa still had no 2013 class verbal
commitments heading into March. That all changed when quarterback Brendan Marshall , a 6’5″, 210-pound junior out of Good Counsel High School (Olney, MD), committed to the Hoos following an unofficial visit on Wednesday, March 14. Olanrewaju, a 6’6″, 280-pound offensive tackle out of Salisbury School (Salisbury, CT), followed suit less than a week later.
