Basketball Recruiting Notes
– UVa class of 2014 commitment B.J. Stith is impressing on the AAU circuit this season. ESPN.com’s Reggie Rankin, reporting (subscribers article) on the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, called Stith an “athletic wing” with “great upside.” The 6’4″ Brunswick (Lawrenceville, VA) sophomore was also named to the 16-and-under all-tournament team at the Pitt Jam Fest.
Stith plays for Team Loaded on the AAU circuit.
– UVa has offered Beecher (Flint, MI) class of 2013 point guard Monte Morris. The 6’1″, 175-pound prospect also has offers from Arizona State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Rhode Island, and more. He took an unofficial visit to Indiana this past weekend, but the Hoosiers have yet to offer.
In three years on the varsity level, Morris has been a consistent, productive performer. He was an honorable mention all-state selection his freshman season, second-team all-state as a sophomore, and this past season as a junior he was named AP Class C Player of the Year. Morris averaged 18 points, 6.8 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game his sophomore season. He averaged 19.5 points and 4.3 assists in 2011/2012, helping Beecher to an undefeated record and a Class C state championship.
Scout.com ranks Morris as a 4-star recruit and the no. 48 player in the class of 2013, while Rivals.com rates Morris as a 4-star recruit and the no. 82 overall player. ESPN.com has Morris as a 3-star recruit and the no. 24 junior point guard in the country.
