Reports On Sina, Harris, and Barber
Three rising senior point guards — Jaren Sina — definitely have been offered by the University of Virginia. Point guard is the clear need in the class of 2013, so I caught up with all three players for the latest on their recruitments.
Jaren Sina Considering Virginia
Jaren Sina is again a possibility for UVa. The Gil St. Bernard’s (Gladstone, N.J.) point guard was close to eliminating the Hoos totally from consideration back in February, the reason being lack of communication from head coach Tony Bennett. He held off from narrowing his list, and Bennett took advantage.
“With Virginia, I took a visit there (in January), and honestly it’s a great place,” Sina said, summarizing his situation with UVa. “The campus is beautiful. Academically, it’s great, and also they’re in a great conference. Me and Coach Bennett, we had a great relationship, but we kind of went our separate ways for a little while. He wasn’t recruiting me as hard, so at that point I was thinking about cutting down my list and Virginia wasn’t going to be a part of it. They weren’t recruiting me that hard at that point. Obviously, I’m talking to Coach Bennett again, and we’re trying to rebuild from where we were at. It’s part of the process. You can’t take anything personal. It’s recruitment. That’s the way it is. You’ve got to understand that.
“Coach Bennett called me (about a month to month-and-a-half ago), and he kind of asked if he could get back in it. The thing about Coach Bennett, I kind of look up to him because he is a former NBA point guard. He played for his dad. I feel like we have some similar comparisons. We just have a really great relationship, and we just kind of kicked it right back from where we left.”
