In many defensive schemes, including Virginia’s version of the 4-3, the linebackers inherit the role of playmaker. Much of their job involves flowing through the defense to make tackles. At UVa, for example, either Steve Greer or LaRoy Reynolds has led the team in tackles for three straight seasons.
