Weekend Visitors

After saying earlier in the week that he was all set to take an official visit to UVa, it appears Mountain View (Stafford, VA) senior wide receiver/defensive back DaeSean Hamilton will not be in Charlottesville this weekend after all. I’ll catch up with DaeSean on Sunday for more on why the visit didn’t happen.

Hamilton is a talented player and presumably still has an offer from Virginia along with Illinois, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and others. But wide receiver and cornerback, the positions he would play in college, are not real needs for the Cavaliers in this class. We’ll see where Hamilton goes from here.

This weekend, I’ll post a list of those confirmed football recruiting visitors for the Wake Forest game.

UVa men’s basketball will host Rock School (Gainesville, FL) center Joel Embiid on an official visit this weekend. This will be the third official visit for the 7’0″ center, who took officials to Texas and Kansas the previous two weekends. Following the trip to Charlottesville, Embiid is expected to take an official to Florida with either Ohio State or Marquette getting the fifth and final official at some point.

There is no question that the competition is steep. There is consistent national power Kansas to contend with. And hometown Florida, which has been a big-time program under Billy Donovan, has several players and recruits Embiid knows well. I think he moved him because he was so genuine. Coach Bennett was genuine in his recruiting approach. He came across as a normal person interested in helping Joel realize his dreams. Coach Bennett is just a solid guy, which intrigued Joel to take a visit there. Jason Williford has also been active in calling
