Taquan Mizzell

On August 21, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) running back Taquan “Smoke” Mizzell announced he would attend the University of Virginia. But as you know, recruiting does not stop until that letter of intent is signed, and Mizzell continues to hear from other schools.

Other schools, such as UNC, continue to pursue Mizzell, but he maintains he is solid to UVa

“North Carolina is on me right now the hardest, outside of UVa,” Mizzell said. “I’m also hearing from UCLA, Washington State, and some others.”

The 5’10”, 185-pound senior reaffirmed his commitment to the Cavaliers.

“I’m locked in,” he said.

The U.S. Army All-American added that he has “no plans to [visit] anywhere else.”

Decommitments are very much a part of the college football recruiting landscape, but I don’t believe Cavalier fans need to worry here. Mizzell seems as solid as they come. In fact, the elusive tailback prospect admits he is in the ear of fellow Bayside teammate, Quin Blanding , who is one of Virginia’s top overall targets in the class of 2014.

Blanding, who would be an instant impact player at safety, recently narrowed his list to Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Virginia, and West Virginia.

“I always keep a bug in his ear,” Mizzell said when asked if he has tried to persuade the 6’1″, 195-pound junior to join him in Charlottesville. “We’ve been going through this process together all year. We’ve done everything together.”

Blanding has visited UVa numerous times. I certainly don’t think he is a lock to sign with the Hoos, but Virginia is a legit top
