As of today, the number of scholarship players projected to be on UVa’s 2014 season roster is 81. This includes Victory Christian Academy (Lakeland, FL) defensive tackle Chris Nelson , UVa’s lone verbal commitment so far in the class of 2014. Factoring in 10-percent attrition to the current roster number (per VBHOO’s historical data), you figure eight more scholarship spots will open up. That would leave 12 more spots remaining for the class of 2014. Even with more attrition than average, the class would be hard pressed to reach 20.

Jay Whitmire : Whitmire, who saw significant time as a red-shirt freshman in 2012, has shown good promise and has the potential to be a 3-year starter at tackle. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Sean Karl : Karl red-shirted in 2012 and will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Michael Mooney : Mooney also red-shirted in 2012 and will have four years of eligibility remaining.

CENTER (Projected 2014 Season Roster)

Ross Burbank : Burbank played in all 12 games as a red-shirt freshman in 2012. He primarily played offensive
