Blanding Proud To Represent Virginia Beach, Eyes Big Future For UVa
While the Wahoo nation was celebrating a verbal commitment from a consensus 5-star prospect, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) junior Quin Blanding was relaxed, feeling a sense of relief after his press conference Wednesday, when he revealed to everyone that he had pledged to the University of Virginia. He also felt a sense of pride for his family, who he credited with helping him through a challenging recruiting process.
“This day means a lot to my family and me as well because my family has seen a lot of stress I went through and put up with, but at the end of the day they always supported me and just kept me humbled and kept me focused on the big picture of it. I thank them every day for staying on me with my grades, with everything. I just appreciate them like no other. My sister (his 21-year-old sister who is in the Navy) came home supporting me. It’s a great thing,” Blanding said.
Blanding’s affection for his family, which includes four brothers and two sisters, was evident. Staying close to his family and the Virginia Beach area played a significant role in his decision to attend Virginia. He of course hopes to succeed on the football field, but he has serious goals off the field as well.
“[Virginia Beach] is where I’m from. This is where I want to get back to. This exact area is where I’m from, so why not support it? Why not make it get a bigger name for itself? We have people from here that really haven’t done much for us. I just want to be a difference maker for us around here, to bring us up and help kids and make things safe. That’s the big picture of it. That’s what I look forward to,” Blanding said.
