Phillip Sims is in competition for UVa’s starting QB job.
The Virginia football team released a post-spring depth chart last week and the offensive side of the ball drew the most attention. Discussion trended that way for two reasons: the quarterback competition and an offensive line shuffle. Both categories left Cavalier fans concerned heading into the summer. First, let’s look at the quarterback spot where David Watford , Greyson Lambert , and Phillip Sims are eyeing the top spot for the 2013 season.
The depth chart added “or” to the equation for the post-spring release with all three players sharing the top line as new offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild installed his system. Entering the spring period, the list showed Watford, Lambert, and Sims in that order. That created a ripple of discussion at the beginning of the practice period since many assumed Sims to be the front-runner after splitting starts last season with Michael Rocco.
