Led by 5-star prospects Da’Shawn Hand and Andrew Brown , the state of Virginia certainly boasts a talented group of defensive linemen in the class of 2014. One of the nation’s top rising junior defensive linemen resides in the Commonwealth as well. Tim Settle, a 6’3″, 310-pound prospect out of Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas (VA), already boasts offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and more.
“He’s just disruptive,” Stonewall Jackson head coach Mike Dougherty said of Settle. “For a 310-pound kid, he has great hips and joint flexibility. It’s crazy because none of what he can do is taught. He just does it. He’s 6’3″, 310 pounds, and he’s only 15, but the thing that stands out is his explosiveness.”
UNC was the first school to extend a scholarship offer, coming through this past February. Virginia followed suit. Alabama offered during the spring, and “since then, it has been nothing but up and up,” Settle said of his recruitment.
His size is an obvious plus, but, as Dougherty mentioned, Settle also has the athleticism coveted by major college coaches.
“They are all telling me I’m really flexible and athletic,” Settle said when asked what coaches say they like the most about his game and how he translates to the next level.
Settle says he’s “not even close” to making a college commitment, but he has taken some visits. The school he has visited most is UVa, and he wrote on Twitter that he is going to visit there again today. Settle estimates he has trekked to Charlottesville on “three or four” previous occasions.
