Robert Johnson Update

Miami is out and six schools remain in the running for 4-star Robert Johnson , who is one week away from making his first official visit.

Florida State, Georgetown, Indiana, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Virginia remain on the 6’3″, 175-pound combo guard’s list. Johnson confirmed to TheSabre.com that he will take an official visit to Indiana the weekend of August 23-25. No other dates have been scheduled, but Johnson indicated via text that the plan is to take all five official visits before he commits.

Also via text message, the Benedictine (Richmond, VA) rising senior indicated he “probably” will visit UVa on the weekend of September 6th. Asked where the Cavaliers stand, he replied: “I would say they are just as much in the running as anyone else on the list.”

The competition certainly is tough for Johnson, one of the fastest rising prospects in the class of 2014 as a result of his play this spring and summer. Georgetown, Indiana and North Carolina are top programs with rich basketball traditions. New ACC member Pitt has been steady and successful over the past decade or so. And according to our sources, Florida State is very much a team to watch in this race. Virginia is the home-state school and is definitely in the mix but has to wow the talented prospect on his official visit.

Indiana gets the first crack with the smooth shooting combo guard. 4-star shooting guard James Blackmon recently de-committed from the Hoosiers, and no doubt Tom Crean and company would like to fill that spot with the Benedictine star.
