The 2014/2015 season was a great one for Iona Prep’s (New Rochelle, N.Y.) boys varsity basketball squad. The Gaels went 22-6 overall, captured the CHSAA AA Archdiocesan championship for the first time in school history, and made it to the semifinals of the CHSAA AA Intersectional playoffs before falling to Xaverian, 50-48.

Point guard Ty Jerome, who verbally committed to UVa last September, earned first-team all-league and all-tournament honors in this his junior season. The 6’4” prospect, rated as one of the Top 100 juniors in the nation by Scout.com, performed well in the postseason, scoring 33 points in the Archdiocesan championship win over St. Raymond’s, 26 in the Sectional quarterfinal win over Molloy, and 18 against Xaverian.

“Those are the moments I live for,” Jerome said when asked about his performances in big game and big moment scenarios. “There’s no feeling like having the ball in crunch time. I’m just always confident no matter what.”

Jerome’s attention now turns to the AAU season. He’ll play for the PSA Cardinals, which competes on the Nike EYBL circuit. Jerome plans to play in the Nike EYBL Session 1 in Hampton the weekend of April 10-12.
