It has been quite a ride these past 10 months for Park View (South Hill, VA) rising sophomore guard Keldon Johnson. For his high school team, the 6’5” standout averaged around 27 points per game and eclipsed the all-time VHSL freshman single season scoring record. On the AAU circuit this spring and summer, Johnson earned an invite to the Adidas All-American Camp in New York, where as one of the youngest competitors in the field he averaged a solid 7.6 points per game while shooting 44-percent from 3-point range.

As you might imagine, college coaches have taken notice of his play.

“His recruitment has gone through the roof,” said Ty White, Director of the Team Loaded AAU program Johnson plays for.

Cincinnati, Georgetown, NC State, Old Dominion, Texas, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have extended scholarship offers to the promising prospect, whose brother, Kaleb, signed with Georgetown in the class of 2015. Certainly, it’s likely that Keldon’s recruitment will continue to flourish in the coming years.

“His versatility and the way he competes kind of separates him from a lot of different people. Normally, guys who are talented on offense don’t play hard on defense. He competes on both ends of the court,” said White, adding also that Johnson is “not afraid of the moment nor the opportunity.”

How much will Kaleb playing for Georgetown impact Keldon’s decision?

“They are totally different kids, so I’m not going to say it is a positive or a negative. It doesn’t hurt,” White answered, noting that Keldon is the “more talkative” of the two brothers on the court.

Keldon is expected to attend UVa’s Elite Camp on Saturday; however, it appears to be too early to talk about which schools the talented perimeter prospect may be favoring.

“It’s still so early in the process,” White said. “I think everybody is still in the mix.”
