From fans to former players to national media, Bronco Mendenhall’s hiring as the new University of Virginia head football coach certainly has been well received. UVA’s 2016 recruiting class — at least those who have gone on record so far — appears very much on board as well.

I’ll post more updates from the class of 2016 as I get them, but for now here are some of the immediate reactions Cavalier commitments have had to the new Cavalier coach.

SONNY ABRAMSON, QB, Pope John XXIII (Sparta, N.J.)

Abramson said the following to the Charlottesville Daily Progress. Click here to read Andrew Ramspacher’s entire article.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Abramson said. “Mr. Littlepage said that he would find the best coach out there for us, holding up both UVa standards of honor and integrity while striving for uncompromised excellence. And he went out there and found the perfect coach for us.

“I know the class is very excited.”

TRE HARBISON, RB, Crest (Shelby, N.C.)

On Friday night, Harbison helped Crest reach a second consecutive state championship with a 44-6 win over Concord in the 3AA state semifinals (click here to watch Harbison’s 93-yard TD run, one of two touchdowns he scored Friday night). The talented tailback then spoke with the new Cavalier coach last night.

BEN KNUTSON, OL, Penn (Mishawaka, IN)

“From what I can tell we are all pretty pumped,” Knutson wrote in a text message.
