Virginia One Of Many Schools In Hot Pursuit Of Transfer Guard MaCio Teague

Despite a prolific senior season at Walnut Hills High School (Cincinnati, OH), guard MaCio Teague wasn’t on the radar of high-major Division 1 men’s basketball programs when he graduated from there in 2015. Teague headed to powerhouse prep program Montverde Academy (FL) in 2015/2016 before ultimately signing with UNC Asheville in the spring of 2016.

After two outstanding seasons with UNC Asheville, Teague requested and has been granted a release from his scholarship to explore a transfer. The 6’3”, 190-pound sophomore now finds himself coveted by high-major Division 1 programs, including the University of Virginia. Cavalier head coach Tony Bennett met with Teague this past weekend. Baylor’s Scott Drew, Louisville’s Chris Mack and Xavier’s Travis Steele have met with him as well.

According to Walnut Hills head coach Ricardo Hill, a “ton” of other schools are also trying to get in the mix.

“He’s a real humble kid,” Hill said of Teague. “He’s not overwhelmed by [the amount of recent attention]. It’s overwhelming for me (laughs).”
