Strategy Session: Virginia Basketball Heads Into July Evaluation Time

July marks the return of the AAU basketball season, which has been on break since May, and three more Live Evaluation periods for Division 1 basketball coaches to take in. But before we examine the upcoming month, let’s check in on what Virginia’s lone class of 2019 commitment, St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) shooting guard Casey Morsell.

When we last spoke with the 6’2”, 175-pound rising senior in April, he had just helped Team Takeover AAU complete a perfect 16-0 record in the Nike EYBL “regular season.” In case you missed it, here are highlights of Morsell’s performance in Hampton, the host of the fourth and final EYBL “regular season” session.

In June, Morsell headed to Colorado Springs (CO) to compete for a spot on the Team USA 17U squad. Although he did not make the final roster, the future Hoo played well, making the first cut. Morsell was one of 17 finalists considered before the final roster selection.

Earlier this month, Morsell made a quick stop at the Capitol Hoops Summer League at DeMatha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, MD). Here are some of Morsell’s highlights from the event.

Morsell and his Team Takeover teammates return to the court on July 11 for Peach Jam, which is the Nike EYBL’s championship round. Can they complete a perfect AAU season? We’ll find out next week.
