Virginia football head coach Bronco Mendenhall has shown he is willing to recruit anywhere as he builds the Cavalier program. Mendenhall has taken it a step further in the class of 2019, accepting three commitments from Europe – quarterback/athlete Luke Wentz and offensive lineman Kariem Al Soufi of Germany and defensive lineman Emil Bo Andersen of Denmark. All three pledged to the Hoos in June, something that may not have happened if not for Cavalier defensive line coach Vic So’oto.

Former NFL and CFL player Brandon Collier not only played and coached seven years in Europe, but he is the founder of PPI Recruits, an organization devoted to helping European football players gain exposure since 2017. For the past two years, PPI Recruits has organized an event called the “DreamChasers” tour, which brings European prospects to the United States for a few weeks to participate in camps and tour colleges.

Fourteen European prospects went on the inaugural “Dreamchasers” tour in 2017. Eleven student athletes earned Division 1 scholarships that year. Twenty-three prospects traveled earlier this year to the United States, and UVA wound up being a scheduled stop this past June.
