One kick at a time.
This philosophy helps Virginia football placekicker Brian Delaney maintain focus. Focus helped him overcome a missed extra point in the first quarter against Virginia Tech last November. Delaney rebounded to make two clutch fourth quarter field goals – including a 48-yarder to give Virginia a 33-30 lead with 1:23 remaining – as the Hoos captured the Commonwealth Cup.
The scores against the Hokies were two of 13 straight field goals Delaney made to close out UVA’s historic 2019 campaign. He is off to a good start in 2020, converting on his only two attempts of the season. Delaney’s 27-yard field goal against Clemson was a significant one, though. It extended his streak to 15 made field goals in a row, which is a new school record, eclipsing Jake McInerney’s streak of 14 set in 1989.
Delaney also holds the school record for most extra points made in a single season with 50, a mark he set in 2019.
