New Football Commitment Will Hardy: Virginia “Had What I Wanted”

Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, GA) class of 2022 safety/wide receiver Will Hardy admits he “didn’t know a ton about Virginia” before Cavalier Co-Defensive Coordinator Nick Howell offered a scholarship on January 14. UVA grabbed the standout junior’s attention by being the first school to offer.

“I didn’t know a ton about Virginia,” Hardy said. “My aunt went to law school there, so I do have one family connection. She loved it. Other than that, I was open to learning about it.”

Over the course of the next four months, Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall and staff, as well as a few players, provided Hardy with all the information he could want, albeit virtually. A recruiting dead period that has been in place since the spring of 2020 comes to an end at the end of May, meaning prospects will be able to take official visits to schools starting in June. Hardy did not need to visit any schools, though, as he was sold on Virginia.

On April 19, Hardy announced his verbal commitment to the Cavaliers.
