One of the things that has been so clear this season is the depth of Atlantic Coast Conference baseball. This may be the deepest the league has ever been in terms of talent. The conference has four teams among the top nine seeds in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. As for Virginia, this may be the deepest team since 2013-14.

Everyone knows about catcher Kyle Teel, third baseman Jake Gelof, and shortstop Griff O’Ferrall. But the success of UVA’s offense this season has been more than these three players; it’s also been the depth of the hitting 1-9 this season.

O’Ferrall, Gelof and Teel delivered exactly what Virginia was looking for in 2023 and hitters 6-9 are starting to do damage more consistently. But two players have stepped into critical roles this season and made a huge impact on not only the ACC’s leading offense, but also one of the top offenses nationally. The Hoos are in the top 19 in slugging % (.528, 19th), runs scored (519, 7th), On base % (.429, 6th) and batting average (.334, 1st).

Those players are Ethan O’Donnell and Ethan Anderson – UVA’s 1-2 Ethan punch.
