The Virginia basketball team marched into rivalry territory on Wednesday night and smashed Virginia Tech, 78-52. That matched the largest margin of victory in Blacksburg since 1928. UVA never trailed, led by double figures for the final 24:37, and ballooned the lead to as much as 33 points at one time.
If any game was worthy of a Double Bonus, this qualifies!
High Ball Screens For Ty Jerome
One interesting storyline within this win is that the Cavaliers scored quite a few points in ways that are not always common for the offense. They picked up 25 points – nearly a third of their total – on high ball screen plays and by attacking against the VT press.
UVA coach Tony Bennett mentioned the high ball screen growth briefly in his postgame interview with Jimmy Miller, but it’s worth visiting in the Double Bonus. The Wahoos are putting more ball screens within the offense this season overall, but they’ve started to set up Ty Jerome with high ball screens above the top of the key more often so far in ACC play.
