The Virginia basketball team served a heaping helping of defense to Clemson on Tuesday, locking down the Tigers to the tune of a 61-36 victory. Some adjectives thrown around about the D included dazzling, sparkling, dominant, smothering, and so on.

Right fully so. Clemson managed just 13 points over the game’s final 26:32. The visitors at John Paul Jones Arena didn’t score for the final 6:32 of the first half as UVA closed on an 11-0 run and then stretched the lead throughout the second half.

That defensive effort is a great place to start this Double Bonus.

Many observers and posters shared thoughts on just how good the defense was Tuesday. There are plenty of stats to back it up: Clemson shot just 31.9% in the game and 25% in the second half. The Tigers had 19 turnovers with the Hoos claiming a season-high 14 steals among them. The visitors made just 3 of 20 3-point attempts (15%).
