Three-Star Tight End Jack Witmer Discusses Commitment To “Dream” School UVA

After announcing his verbal commitment to the University of Virginia, Cy-Fair (Cypress, TX) rising senior tight end prospect Jack Witmer discussed how UVA met every one of the standards – academics, alumni network, and athletics – he established in finding his right college fit.

“First, academically, UVA is one of the best schools in the country with a top-notch business school too, so it definitely checked that box for me,” Witmer wrote in an interview with TheSabre.com via Twitter direct message. “There’s an amazing alumni network surrounding the school and the staff work hard to get their athletes into good standing with them. Finally, the athletes there and the program are among some of the best in the country and we’re only getting better!”

Witmer’s pledge comes on the heels of a whirlwind tour of schools he made with his family last week. In addition to a visit to UVA that took place last Friday (July 31) and Saturday (August 1), the 6’7”, 230-pound standout trekked to Boston College, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fordham, Harvard, Lehigh and Yale.

Prior to his experience on Grounds, Witmer conducted Zoom meetings with the Virginia coaches. One meeting was to speak with head coach Bronco Mendenhall. Another was an in-depth look at the offense with Tight Ends Coach Ricky Brumfield. A third was to meet with academic staff.
