Olamide Zaccheaus made a big splash for the Virginia football team quickly. He started games and became a dual threat running and receiving as a true freshman and then backed it up with an even more productive sophomore season despite a coaching change.
That didn’t stop new UVA coach Bronco Mendenhall from giving the talented receiver a stark evaluation at the end of last season. The gist? Zaccheaus needed to be more like a lifeguard and not the kid splashing in the pool.
”Coach Mendenhall explained what he saw and I kind of saw when he said that I saw too and I was like it’s true,” Zaccheaus said. ”It just made sense. As soon as he said it, it just made sense. It was something that made me feel like I didn’t do everything I could last year and I definitely didn’t. It was just eye-opening and very humbling. It was great to learn.”
