The process of changing the losing paradigm of Virginia football moved into upper level classes this past weekend. Developing a Winning Culture 302 with Professor Steve Addazio opened Saturday. How are the Hoos after the first test? They need some tutoring based on these grades.

In the UNC trend report, I talked about the worrisome numbers surrounding the UVA offense coming out of the last two games – so I’m not surprised the offense sputtered against Boston College. The passing game produced its worst numbers of the season and that is not a surprise to me.

But the total collapse by the Cavalier defense? That stunned me. Overall, a collective failure of the entire team contributed to the loss as three special teams units graded out below average as well.

Virginia football is in an unfamiliar place – playing meaningful football in late October. Are the Hoos ready? That’s the question Saturday’s loss begs, a question that will only be answered as we move to an even more meaningful part of the season. This is the part that begins to sort out the teams playing for postseason bowls and valuable, extra practice time and those who’ll be home with Bing Crosby for Christmas.
