Can Keytaon Thompson Do Even More For Virginia?

Virginia expects to use Keytaon Thompson in a variety of ways again.

When quarterback Bryce Perkins finished his career following the 2019 season, the Virginia football program decided it needed more depth and competition even with Brennan Armstrong aligned as the heir apparent behind center. UVA coach Bronco Mendenhall simply said that he did not think you could compete in the ACC and sustain success without multiple starter quality players at that position.

So the Cavaliers decided to add Keytaon Thompson as a piece of the puzzle. It turns out unlike typical puzzle pieces, Thompson fit in more than one specific spot. Armstrong, of course, ended up winning the starting quarterback job anyway as Thompson dealt with a shoulder injury that limited the number of passing reps he could take regularly. Armstrong went on to post 2,117 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as well as 552 rushing yards with 5 touchdowns. He earned the top grade in the Pro Football Focus (PFF) data at a 90.3.

That didn’t leave Thompson as a non-factor, though.
