As jersey numbers go, No. 3 has had quite a few memorable days in Scott Stadium for the Virginia football program. Add Saturday to the list.

Receiver Dontayvion Wicks and corner Anthony Johnson, who each wear No. 3, put together strong outings for the Hoos as they rolled past Illinois, 42-14, to start 2-0 on the season. Wicks secured 3 receptions for 69 yards and 2 touchdowns. Johnson posted 5 tackles with 2 pass breakups and 1 interception on the other side of the ball.

Stats aside, the duo certainly looks the part too. Wicks is 6’1” and 205 pounds, while Johnson is 6’1” and 195 pounds. Both players figure to be key contributors as the 2021 season continues to unfold.

Sticking with Wicks for a moment, he added a pass completion to his stat line too. Considering all the chatter about multiple quarterbacks doing multiple things and even that tight end Jelani Woods once played quarterback, there had been questions and remarks about different players attempting razzle-dazzle passes potentially for the offense.
