Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong etched his name all over the program record books last season with some dizzying numbers. Among the highlights: 4,449 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, and 326 completions to set program season records. Already the career record holder in 300-yard passing games, Armstrong could move to the top of almost all the career charts this fall too.

Even in the age of increased games and high-powered modern offenses, it’s impressive. So it isn’t too often that a quarterback coach can walk in the room and compare resumes.

Enter new UVA assistant Taylor Lamb. He had a sterling career at Appalachian State with 9,786 passing yards, 2,008 rushing yards, and 113 total touchdowns. He ended his career after the 2017 season ranked second in those categories and No. 1 in Mountaineer history with 90 touchdown passes.

In other words, game recognizes game. That’s helped form what both called a partnership quickly in the past three months.
