College football finally returned as part of the Week 0 scheduling, but for Virginia fans the action begins in Week 1 as UVA kicks off the 2022 season against Richmond at Scott Stadium. The Spiders will be the first opponent for the Cavaliers in the Tony Elliott era.
The Hoos look to make it back-to-back wins over Richmond after winning the 2018 season opener, 42-13. Overall, this series has been quite kind to Virginia, as they hold a 29-5 advantage.
Looking back at 2021, the Spiders had an up-and-down campaign. After starting the season 2-0, they dropped their next five but then won their last four to finish 6-5. Ross Huesman is entering his sixth season as Richmond’s head coach, but he has yet to really get them over the hump. He has compiled a 24-25 record with two winning seasons under his belt.
