After suffering the first loss of his head coaching career, Virginia football coach Tony Elliott was upset about the “comedy of errors” but feels the Cavaliers will learn from the issues. Illinois delivered the 24-3 setback to the Hoos on Saturday.
“All the things I saw in the game are correctable,” Elliott said. “It’s just a matter of making sure throughout the course of the week that you have a right mindset from a preparation standpoint.”
It was an ugly game for Virginia’s offense, as it only accounted for 222 total yards, with 93 of them coming from just two plays. The physicality proved to be an issue as Illinois played tight on the wide receivers and put pressure on the questionable offensive line. Last Saturday, it all fell into place for the Illini, while the Cavaliers were searching for answers. Too many miscues halted Virginia, as it could not get out of its own way.
The contest featured multiple missed opportunities to generate better production.
