Despite Virginia’s 31-28 loss to the Tar Heels on Saturday, the first time since 2015 and 2016 UVA has lost back-to-back contests against UNC, there was execution improvement and other positives in the grades that should give Wahoo fans some hope moving forward into the final three regular season games of the 2022 campaign.

On the negative side, 60% of Virginia’s special teams failed to reach the 63 grade mark. The punt and kickoff coverage groups allowed huge shifts in field position – game-altering changes, in my opinion. The coverage units combined for a 52.11 grade and punt return was a disappointing 57.88.

Against the No. 8 total offense, the No. 6 scoring offense, and the No. 3 top passing efficiency offense in college football, the defense acquitted itself well holding the Tar Heels to their second lowest point total of the season and their second lowest total offense number.
