Lots of eyes will be on the Virginia backfield this spring. Of course plenty of this attention will be surrounding Mike Hollins and his inspirational return to the gridiron, but many will be watching the running backs group as a whole as it is one of the Cavaliers’ most talented and experienced units.

A look at the running back depth chart reveals five guys who could potentially contribute this fall. Hollins and fellow senior Perris Jones return to UVA for senior seasons, while junior Clemson transfer Kobe Pace joins the room for the first time this spring. Cody Brown, an incoming Miami transfer last season, and Xavier Brown, a true freshman that played in all 10 games last fall, have played in college contests too.

Nobody loves this depth more than the running backs themselves.

“The depth is exciting. Pushes us to compete,” sophomore running back Xavier Brown said. “No drop off between each person in the group. Makes us go harder every day in practice. Being able to lean back on them is huge.”
