As the Virginia football team prepares for the spring game in less than two weeks, the focus of the offensive line is simple: consistency. Coach Terry Heffernan hopes to help his inexperienced unit achieve that goal by putting heavy emphasis on fundamentals and the small details.

Virginia has only two players returning from the 2022 season who started more than two games at offensive line: junior center Ty Furnish and junior guard Noah Josey. Josey is limited this spring while rehabbing an injury. It’s also Heffernan’s first year with the Hoos. With a new voice leading the room plus lots of younger guys and transfers needing to step up, it may take time for the entire unit to get comfortable playing together.

When asked about how he thought the group was meshing, Furnish referenced the consistency theme.

“I think we have up and down days, stemming from that young room,” Furnish said. “When we do well, we look really good, and when we don’t we look terrible. We just have to get that consistency down and I think we’ll be good.”
